Home Renovation Incentive

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

The Home Renovation Incentive (HRI), which the government announced recently, should provide a boost to the building industry and also help home owners get some much-needed work done.

The type of work for which the tax relief is granted can include kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom fittings, as well as larger jobs such as extensions and garages. Plumbing and tiling are also part of the scheme. Built-in furniture, such as wardrobes, qualifies too, so this is a great time to be making plans for a brand new fitted kitchen or bedroom.

Agetek kitchens and bedrooms all qualify for tax relief under the terms of the Home Renovation Incentive, so this is an excellent opportunity to make some home improvements of real quality, and with government assistance, to make a substantial saving on the cost of the project, whether you are renovating an old kitchen or building a new one.

The scheme runs from October 25th 2013 to December 31st 2015, and the work has to be carried out and paid for in that period, though if planning permission is needed an extra three months, to March 2016, is allowed. To qualify, the job has to cost a minimum of €5,000, and the tax relief is payable on a maximum of €30,000 (the work can cost more, but without the tax relief on the extra).
